Gen,
Gen, știri – is an ongoing and constantly growing project. Benefiting from the mentorship of experienced journalists, we have formed a team of young journalists who serve as a bridge between professional journalism (which is not without its flaws) and the young audience. We launched the project in September 2021, observing that young people don’t read news and mainly get their information from Instagram. Their sources of information have essentially become influencers, not journalists. We then gathered a team of young people aged 16-24 who would translate the most important news not only from the country but from around the world in a simple and concise manner, for Instagram. Since then, we have consistently developed the project. We no longer just translate news, but we create original content, conduct field reports, and our audience has grown to over 160,000 followers. The channel has become one of the main sources of information for young people in Romania, and this makes it very innovative and unique because young people are part of the project. In other words, we have young people curating news for other young people. The news is summarized and adapted to the graphic and video formats of the mentioned platforms (slides and reels for Instagram, short video clips for TikTok). The project mainly takes place on Instagram and TikTok, but it is set to expand to other platforms.
