Forum Apulum is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2017 that aims to promote civic education and social involvement. We believe that a strong democracy can be built by educating young citizens in a safe environment by promoting freedom of speech, critical thinking, and informal education.
With grassroots projects, dedication, and teamwork, we are able to change young people’s lives and communities, bit by bit. Our most recent projects include:
Gen, știri, an online news outlet run by young journalists, reaching over 3 million young people every month;
GenZette, Gen, știri’s international chapter, with a team from Central and Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, Armenia, and Georgia, who write, translate, and explain news from their countries in English;
Gen, revistă, an editorial project that provides a space for expression and reflection for young people, especially those from smaller cities and rural areas, regardless of their background.
Civicult, a national network of youth-led centers in five of Romania’s most socio-politically vulnerable cities (Suceava, Bacău, Constanța, Craiova, and Oradea), promoting communities designed to generate civic engagement and social transformation.
We want to educate the younger generations on how to stay informed, understand the ways in which the world they live in operates, vote in a balanced way, and get involved in strengthening the democratic process.
We want to build careers. We want to provide young people with the skills they need for economic independence and innovation in the digital age.
We want to build leaders through education. We want to facilitate civic engagement and community connections through education in formal learning environments and extracurricular settings.
We want to build safe communities. We want to create online and offline contexts (cultural events, sporting events, civic engagement) and help young people solve the problems they care about in their local communities.
